How Sponsorship works:

To sponsor a caregiver, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident must meet certain requirements, including demonstrating that they have the financial means to support the caregiver, and that the caregiver meets the qualifications and experience required for the job. The following are the steps involved in sponsoring a caregiver:

1) Determine your eligibility: To sponsor a caregiver, you must first determine if you meet the eligibility requirements set by the government of Canada. This includes being a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, demonstrating that you have the financial means to support the caregiver, and meeting the minimum income requirements.

2) Find a caregiver: Once you have determined your eligibility, you must find a caregiver who meets the qualifications and experience required for the job. You can find a caregiver through various sources, such as recruitment agencies or personal networks.

3) Apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA): Before a caregiver can work in Canada, an employer must apply for an LMIA from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). This process ensures that there are no Canadians or permanent residents available to do the job and that the caregiver will be paid a fair wage.

What are the costs?

In order to qualify for a caregiver visa sponsorship through the Home Caregiver Program in Canada, the caregiver is required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week for the employer, and be paid at the prevailing wage rate for their occupation as determined by the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process (which is approximately $17.50/hr in Toronto). The employer must also provide the caregiver with a contract that outlines the terms of the job, including the hours of work and the hourly rate of pay, among other details.

The approximate monthly cost would start at $2100, for 30 hours a week of in-home care.

This committed amount can be split between two or more people.

There may be additional costs to prepare the LMIA application and set up the financial arrangements. Farrah is working with an immigration consultant who can provide more details.
